I love the thought that LOVE is not an emotion, as so many of us think, but rather a choice – or an action. That takes it from being this ‘noun’ of an idea that people search for and yearn to have, to a ‘verb’ that shows itself in our actions. That changes everything!
L-O-V-E: So many people are afraid of the word. Afraid to even say it. I never have understood what the big deal is. It’s always come so easily to me. My mother loves to tell the story of one summer when we went to Maine. I came up to her mother, my grandmother (I called her Nanny) and said, “Nanny, I love you.” No response. So I said, “Nanny, don’t you love me?” Mom said Nanny gave me a great big hug and said “Yes, Kimmy, I love you.” It was the first time my mother had ever heard her mother say “I love you” to anyone! Sadly our culture has attached unnecessary baggage to this beautiful little four letter word. I think it should be said, shown, shared, talked about, thought about, tossed around and applied to every situation or decision. It’s just that important.
This week I attended the Go Red for Women Luncheon in Rogers. As a member of the Circle of Red I look forward to the event every year. It is a time to recognize and take a stand against heart disease in women. It’s always an inspiring event, not only with the program of entertainment and speakers provided but to see table after table of women (and men too) all decked out in red and coming together for such an important cause.
I’ve been talking about all different kinds of LOVE this month, and yesterday was filled with it! Each year I invite women to join me at my table and this year was a special honor. I got to bring my mother. After her struggles the last few months it was an incredible feat to lovingly and proudly have her sit next to me at such an event. I felt the LOVE all day long as people I knew and total strangers opened doors for us to wheel through, graciously took time to meet and visit with Mom, helped us with coats, scarves, food, cars etc. LOVE everywhere.
So this week I celebrate the special day and I celebrate my MOM and all the many lessons she has taught me about LOVE.
With much LOVE,
PS – Have you accepted my challenge this month? Are you in? https://www.kimhodous.com/show-the-love-challenge/ C’mon let’s show some LOVE!
